Internet addiction drives Hyderabad youth in the danger zone
Hyderabad: The recurring theme of many jokes on sitcoms is man modern couples prefer to spend time with her beloved soul mate devices, and if the experts are right, this particular scene has been coming to the life in several houses in the city and the resulting reality is far from funny.
With Internet addiction disorder fast gaining worldwide recognition as a serious psychiatric illness and the American Psychiatric Association (APA), calling it a "state of mind that justifies further investigation" in a draft report to be published worldwide next week, doctors Hyderabad said the city has not been spared this dangerous trend.
The doctors said that a growing number of couples seeking advice because Internet addiction is something to worry about. "The young people of 20-30 age group for help to get rid of the addiction network has become a common trend now," said Dr M Phani Prashant, Care Hospital psychiatrist.
"The problem results in not being able to provide emotional and physical support to the other." One such case is 25 years old, Pooja Ramesh a financial professional who was all set to marry this month with her boyfriend of six months, until he realized that his addiction was becoming virtual networks too unwieldy.
