Mumbai Metro to have its first trial run today
Mumbai: mass transit ambitious Mumbai - Mumbai metro - will have its first test run on Wednesday and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will be one of the first travelers.
The project, which is a tie between Reliance Infrastructure and Development of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMRDA), began in February 2008 to increase local service overhead railways. The first phase of the metro will run from Versova to Ghatkopar and will connect the western suburbs of the Eastern Suburbs.
Section is expected to be operational in December 2013. The project, expected to be completed by the year 2008, faced numerous delays due to land acquisition and civil aviation permissions. The construction period also saw many accidents.
